I know I have asked about this before but the links from prior posts are not working.

I need some free software to recover data from a usb pen / memory stick.

It recognises the usb pen but when I go to double click on it, it prompts me to erase it ( which I obviously do not want to do ) due to the data on the usb memory stick that I need.

Thanks

Actually I have had good results by formating the pen drive (quick format)

Then using recovery software.

This way the computer alows access to the drive and the software can scan it for files (formating does not erase the data just gives a new file system).

I use Edata unerase http://www.octanesoft.com/data_recovery_free_edition.html its dirt cheap and works like a charm, the picture software works well too and is a cheap deal when bought together (Around £20 for the pair I seem to remember)

Still its a really easy bit of software to use.

I used to back up my usb stick to my computer once a week. Never needed to use the backup, but it's quick and works best...

For future reference maybe.
