Netflix to clamp down on subscribers using VPN/Proxies

Video-streaming giant Netflix has said it is going to stop subscribers from using internet proxies to view content not available in their home countries.Due to licensing agreements, Netflix content varies between countries - many users have a virtual private network (VPN) or other proxy to get round this.

The firm said it would increase efforts in the next few weeks to block the use of such proxies.

 

This should be interesting to see and I wonder how some subscribers will get around it (as some most surely will)?

I'm guessing that the VPNs will buy the netflix accounts and provide them to the users as well, so it looks more legit.

Netflix gives you content based on Geographical location by DNS and other methods. You can get far greater content by using these services (which are not strictly adherent to the Netflix T&Cs) by using a VPN service to open say US netflix, where the licensing they have to show programmes is different and therefore have a greater content.

 

Although Once Upon A Time has more on the UK service and is awesome, 1 word sums it up Hook :-)

Honestly I think this is just a lip service response to keep license holders happy. I can't see it being in Netflix's best interest to do anything to drive away what are paying customers. I expect they will blacklist a bunch of public VPN's and leave it at that. Anyone that is already using VPN's will probably know enough to just switch to one that isn't blocked and everyone is happy.
