Server Recommendation

Hi,

 

Looking to replace our old RM Rack Server. Been looking at specs for the Dell range of PowerEdge servers. Any recommendations for a 2 site, 1000 user, wanting to use Hyper V as well. Never bought a server before so not sure what I should be looking for spec wise.

 

Not much user storage required( but may change later) but will be used mainly as DC, Print server, DHCP and DNS and then in the future hosting of Hyper V servers.

 

Budget around £3000 max - don't want anything too fancy but same time something that won't fall short going forwards?

Good luck with getting something that will do all of that for just £3,000!

 

You might want to look at something from the likes of www.serversource.co.uk it's refurbished Dell servers and storage with a 3yr warranty on it. We've used them loads of times and it's nearly half the price of new and the kit we've had from them is in 'as new' condition with the odd scratch here and there (if you look close enough) and the warranty is good too.

 

Give them a call and have a chat with Joe, tell me what you want to do and what your budget is and he'll tell you what they can supply you with.

As it happens I've got a Dell Poweredge R810 sat here looking for a home.

 

£1,000 Ex VAT. For that you get a pair of octa-core Xeons & 128GB RAM. We can build out whatever else you need, drives, extra network ports, railes ect.
