RedBull RB8 Mark Webber

Well, for the last 2 weeks i've been busy building the Revell RedBull RB8 Mark Webber F1 car in the monaco spec (Revell - Red Bull Racing RB8 Mark Webber) and to be honest, i didn't think i would enjoy it as much as i did. I thought i had bitten off more than i could chew with this but after taking my time and respraying the blue twice, i have finally finished it. Some parts were tricky and did misplace a few small bits along the way but here it is. I found it was a really good way to unwind from work and means i'm not sat in front of a computer screen once i get home, trouble is i have been going to bed at 1am and getting up at 5:30am.

 

It's my first model since i was about 13 and i'm please with it. It's not perfect and some of the Decals are broken, even the yellow nose is painted on which i have got slightly wrong but all in all, i like it.

 

Now i've got the McLaren MP4/25 (Revell - Geschenk-Set Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-25) set to do. Need to get hold of the MGP W01 and the Ferrari F10 and then i'm thinking about doing Rossi's Yamaha MG bike.

Nice job there, I started doing scale models again a couple of years ago, gets very addictive ;-) If you like doing F1 cars, have a look at the Tamiya ones, much nicer than the Revell kits.

For the decals, spray on gloss modelling varnish first, let harden and then use some Microsol and Microset for applying the decals.

Britmodeller is a great site for advice.

Thanks for the advice on the decals. I used the Humbrol Decalfix as i didn't know about the Microsol and Microset stuff.

 

I'm a new member on Britmodeller and there are some very very good models on there to the point where some could be used in a movie set.

 

I noticed the tamiya sets are possibly the better kits but i saw this one in Hobby craft and was a spontaneous decision and things have kinda got a bit addictive like you say.

 

I'm not interested in the planes, boats or militarily just mainly the cars and bikes. The main cost of this hobby is the paint. Wow, how much is the paint? but i guess once i've bought the colours then i've got them for other models. Trying to find the correct colours can be a nightmare too having to cross reference / convert different brands.

Not sure what type of paints you use for scale models but if it is acrylic based I would take a look at vellejo. They have a massive range, reasonable price and work great with a brush or an airbrush.

I have a load of the old pneumatic stuff in my loft along with a load of the Space Lego, i can't believe some of the prices on ebay.

Not sure what type of paints you use for scale models but if it is acrylic based I would take a look at vellejo. They have a massive range, reasonable price and work great with a brush or an airbrush.

 

The set came with the aqua paints but i use the humbrol enamel paints. Acrylic primer is used as the base coat. The blue is tamiya TS51 which was sprayed indoors as i was spraying in the garage and it was too cold for the paint to show any depth.

Just an update to this, ive now done the 2 Mclaren MP4-25s and the Williams FW23. Ive got the Ferrari F2007, Ferrari F10, McLaren MP4-20 and the Tamiya Ford Focus WRC01 (Colin McRae one) to do. They are very addictive i must admit.
