dominicbastone Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Hi All, Recently purchased cubase elements 8 for our music suite, i have gone around manually and installed the cubase software and activated the e licenser and all was working with the account used (system admin account). I have created a program set for both cubase and e licenser on the RMMC which seem to have worked. I am having a bit of a strange problem it is picking and choosing different machines and saying that it does not have any valid license but it does. Any ideas what could be causing this issue. I know that if you go into the e licenser you can go and run a maintenance task which checks the e licenser etc and that has worked on a few machines but i don't really want to be doing this everytime a student uses the machine. Any Ideas? Dom
GeekyPete Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 What happens if you log on as your system admin but run the software as a teacher user? This will indicate if it's a permissions issue. You can always run Process monitor (Sysinternals) to see if there anything denied access. I don't know Cubase so I'm not sure how the licences are granted. Does one computer act as a licence server or are activated once online? Are the licences per computer or are they per-seat and allocated in real time? I suspect they are per seat and allocated in real time otherwise once you've activated the software it should stay activated. Check that your users logging off correctly and thus releasing the licence.
Steve21 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Does it say it's the wrong license or it's expired? By default it enables a demo of the pro versions that expires after 30 days. We had to do a pikey fix to remove the demo option and overwrite it to use the normal license for Cubase Artist Also how did you deploy your license keys? Are you using the physical dongles and then uploading the key to the elicenser? Steve
dominicbastone Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) It says that there is no active license and we must register, i then have to go onto the e licenser and run the maintenance and it seems to work fine once that is run but for only staff users and admins etc. I think the reason behind it is that where cubase looks for the license is on the c: drive of the machine but we do not allow the students to see that. I have added a folder rule etc on rmmc but still does not seem to work for students. We dont have any dongles on these machines it is all done through the e licenser. And because it is cubase elements we dont need a physical dongle as it stores the license on the hard drive apparently. I am new to this too and i know it works fine as staff or admin users but just the trouble lies with students. Edited January 7, 2016 by dominicbastone
Symbiosis Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 We had to do a pikey fix to remove the demo option and overwrite it to use the normal license for Cubase Artist Hi Steve - I have the same issue with Artist and the demo or run full version prompt! How did you get rid please? Thanks
Symbiosis Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Think I found the answer, for anyone else looking. In the local AppData/Roaming/Steinberg/yourcubaseversion folder are some xml files. 1) The Registration nag is in the defaults.xml here: where value="0" is ask and value="1" is dont ask 2) The demo nag is in the Demo.xml Change from value="ask" to value="never" to turn it off You need to copy these over to your users to disable the pop-ups - hope that helps someone
