Zoom7000 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 I'm currently using a Corsair TX 620W modular PSU. I've just bought myself a 40" 4K TV (Samsung UE40JU6400) and I'm planning on buying a GeForce 970 GPU to drive the newly required resolution. Based on my PC specs (in signature), will I be needing a new PSU, or will the current 620W suffice?
Arthur Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Nope! The GTX 970 uses around 192 watts at load in a multi-monitor configuration. The other components in your PC would be somewhere in the region of 160 watts (at load) so your current PSU will be sufficient. Based on my PC specs (in signature) I couldn't see your signature (since I have them turned off by default) so I've posted the specs below. Intel Core i7-2600K | 2x 4GB RAM | 3 x 1TB HDDs | GeForce 560 Ti | Asus P8P67 Deluxe | Antec P183 | Windows 10 Pro x64 1

I'm glad I won't need another PSU, the TV and GPU (still to buy!) have already broken the bank balance!
Zoom7000 Posted December 28, 2015 Author Posted December 28, 2015 On the subject of GPUs, I've seen this one over at OcUK: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inno3d-geforce-gtx-970-compact-4096mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-n97v-1sdn-m5ds-gx-058-in.html Will that one run completely silently on idle (i.e. fans turned off completely when just simply browsing or using Word)
Arthur Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Will that one run completely silently on idle (i.e. fans turned off completely when just simply browsing or using Word) The manufacturer's website doesn't mention the fan turns off when idle so I think it is safe to assume it doesn't. Asus' STRIX cards have a 0dB fan mode... www.overclockers.co.uk/20-pounds-cashback-asus-geforce-gtx-970-directcu-ii-oc-strix-4096mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-352-as.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27hBljJjmGI Edited December 28, 2015 by Arthur 1
