I am able to sort it by connecting to them remotely and clicking View/Reading pane and then selecting 'Right' I am guessing that it is a recent Windows update as nothing I have done would be affecting Outlook this way.

DerekSpear Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Outlook 2010 update KB3114409 is causing Outlook to start in safe mode. The following update resolves this matter https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3114560, you could uninstall KB3114409 also which resolves the problem. 1

cpjitservices Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 IF uninstalling the update doesn't work there is a registry fix to disable Outlook Safe mode.
