O365 + Outlook 2016 + Exchange Account

Hello all,

 

I thought I'd share this as no doubt some of you will/are running O365 and Outlook 2016, configured as a native Exchange account.

 

Outlook 2016 unlike its predecessors Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2010, autodiscover was optional and not mandatory. I checked the O365 domains I manage and autodiscover DNS was in place and correct, but still unclear as to why it sometimes fails or takes forever to autodiscover.

 

I came across this regedit, which shortens it from minutes to literally seconds:

 

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover]
"ExcludeHttpsRootDomain"=dword:00000001

 

Import this regedit first, then run Outlook 2016 and configure your O365 native Exchange account as normal - hope this helps!

Thank you - will certainly look at the GPO option.

User Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Microsoft Outlook 2016 > Account Settings > Exchange - Disable Autodiscover, then enable 'Exclude the root domain query...'
