hello

Does anyone here know where the SIMS version is held in the SQL tables.

We want to run a SQL script across a lot of our Schools to check the SIMS version. Need to make sure they are all upgraded to the same version (don't trust what Schools Manager is telling me!)

thanks

hiya,

i'm not sure where you are coming from here.

why does it have to be a sql script? surely that means that you would have to have the password for each school, and then you'd have to have a master script to connect to each separately. or are the passwords all the same. i'm not sure, not done a lot of SQL for a very long time.

if you have got access to the servers, there are a number of files that have indicators to the version running:

~simsload.ini has the app version

~simsload.exe has an embedded app version no. that is used by the program itself at client workstation level to determine if in fact an update is required.

if it's actually the version that you see from the help menu that you are after e.g. 7.99

on the server if you go to C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net the drive letter may be different, in there the file pulsar.exe has the file version number as part of it's hidden (right click - properties) data. mine at the moment gives 7.99.5.0 which is a bit finer than needed.

that information is available with a simple WMI script, that i could probably look up if it's any use.

i hope i'm following you on the right lines.
