Evening Guys,

So not sure if I'm barking up the wrong tree here or not, but trying to work out what licenses we would need if we were to move to a VDI solution.

Current setup - 101 FTE + 800~ students / 500 Computers / 101 Remote Users

Licenses - 101 FTE DsktpEdu for all computers internally / 101 RDS Cals for staff remote access. / 3x 2012R2 Server

(Few others but in this scenario those are the ones that would count)

Now if we were to move to VDI (using our current computers), from my understanding the only different licenses required would be another 800 RDS Cal for students, as the rest is covered under the DsktpEdu:

Windows VDI Setup - 101 FTE + 800~ Students / 500 VDI Windows based computers / 901 Remote Users

Licenses - 101 FTE DsktpEdu for all computers internally / 901 RDS Cals for everyone remote access. / 3x 2012R2 Server

Or if we dumped the current computers and went to thin clients you'd then need the thin-client numbers as a VDA license as there's no Windows on them right?

Thin VDI Setup - 101 FTE + 800~ Students / 500 VDI Think based computers / 901 Remote Users

Licenses - 101 FTE DsktpEdu for all computers internally / 500 VDA Licenses / 901 RDS Cals for everyone remote access. / 3x 2012R2 Server

Is that right? Obviously server numbers may increase a bit but in terms of client access the only difference would be RDS Cal numbers and whether or not you need VDA per thin client?

Seems too easy haha :)

Thanks,

Steve

3 x 2012 server without VDI and still 3 x 2012 server with 500 VDI clients?

"Obviously server numbers may increase a bit but in terms of client access" :D

Added that on end just to explain as don't know how many servers it'll be currently :)

Sorry my bad reading - just wanted to make sure!

Haha yep that's cool :) Thinking roughly it'll be 4 more servers by looks of it, roughly 100-125 per server based upon CPU contention etc, on a not silly expensive machine :)
