Garacesh Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 As these things often arise, I've inherited MDT/WDS and have no idea what I'm doing. I've installed the ADK and MDT 2013 Update 1, updated the Deployment Share and hurrah, Windows 10 has finally shown up in the list. Installing it gives me 88 errors, the vast majority of them being ZTI/SQL errors followed by an error for each rule (CPACKAGES, CAPPS, CADMINS, etcetera), twice, with some others thrown into the mix. I've been following this guide to try and get it working, but no joy. Not really sure what other info to put, really, haven't a clue where to look.. Joanne Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) Right when I use WDS these are the steps I take: I PXE boot. I press F12 to get onto WDS I have 2 options - Deploy or Capture Image. Capture image is a install.wim file from Server 2008 R2 CD. I select capture. It asks me for credentials, I supply. It asks me to give the image a name and description. Then it asks if I want to upload to a WDS server. I give it the server name. I also give it a local destination via USB drive. It uploads to the server. When I PXE boot another machine and select deploy OS (boot.wim from Windows 10 CD) and then it gives me my images. I don't use MDT or ADK. I've looked into them, but for me, they seem to come with more issues than problems solved. When I image a machine it takes me 2 minutes to rename, add to domain and then drop it into the right OU in AD. I would personally simplify your setup, get it working, then experiment with all this other stuff. Start from scratch! That's what I did here. To be fair though, they didn't HAVE WDS set up... so yeah... no worries I followed this: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771670(v=ws.10).aspx If I can do it, anyone can do it! Garacesh Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 The problem with doing that is you can't (can, but ridiculously complicated) have two deployment servers live on a network, so I'd have to take this one offline to try anything new. And we have to reimage computers a lot here. Mostly impatient kids holding the power button and causing OS corruption..
Joanne Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Needs must yo. Take it offline while you set up new one. Add images to new one. I reckon downtime of not being to image machines for like... an hour? If that. If you mess it up, disable new one, re-enable working one.
