DFS transitioning to an offline state when using Offline Files.

We have two types of laptop policys on our domain. One is for laptops which go off site which require offline files and the other for laptops on site which have offline files disabled.

 

When logging onto a laptop that has the offline files policy, but is on the domain (Therefore Online), DFS paths seem to go Offline which impacts on network shares and start menu shourtcuts to not appear upon logon. This is an issue and is a flaw with Offline Files and DFS.

 

I have tryed to change the slow-link GPO to the follwoing but nothing seems to have changed.

 

\\domain.com\dfsshares\*

Latency=32000

 

\\domain.com\dfsshares\staffhome\*

Latency=60

 

Has anyone had this issue and has resolved it?

When you say "Go Offline" are you sure it's logging into the domain and not just to the device? As in are all paths offline or just DFS?

 

Running DFS and Offline files and never had that issue.

Just DFS are going offline. What are your GPO settings for offline files?

We don't have most of what you set, just using the defaults.

 

Action on server disconnect is "Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 operating systems only"

 

Allow or Disallow use of the Offline Files feature is enabled for us

 

Configure Background Sync is only for slow links which we don't use.

 

We don't specify offline files specifically either, as anything redirected (not shared folders) automatically gets sync'd, so shortcuts/home areas. (And it should be a fully qualified UNC path not H:\ etc)

 

But your overall issue I'd say is the "Enable Transparent Caching Enabled", there's a bug with that bit. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2831206

 

Because you're using the caching and slow links at once.
