I have 3 Smart UF70 projectors just installed along with the Smart boards. On 2 of them they keep switching to a stange video resolution 1024x395 60hz

The projectors dont seem to detect the video resolution properly, one of them has worked fine for 50hours before having this strange video resolution problem. I am using Windows 7 desktop computer with a VGA connection with no second screen via a video splitter. When a plug a screen into the computer the image is displayed properly on the screen.

Any ideas would be welcome.

If you are connecting the PC / laptop straight to a projector it will detect a different resolution to when connected to a PC monitor.

therefore, when it's connected to the projector have you gone into the graphics properties to check it's at the same settings as when attached to a monitor.

No matter what video resolution I set the computer to the projector still thinks the video resolution is 1024x395. Sometimes this strange resolution happens when the user loggs out of Windows.

Just found a workaround. Set the computer to 800x600 screen resolution. Makes me think. Is this the only resolution this Smart UF70 projector supports? I shall not be buying one of these again.

I just saw this thread and was rather surprised that the projector would be 800x600 resolution.

Checking the a Smart manual the U70 is Native 1024 × 768 resolution (SMART UF70 projector).

Have you tried not connecting through the video splitter??

Thanks for your advice. I am running it through a Video splitter, in fact I have to as its difficult to change the video resolution when the projector is playing up.

I have been in touch with Steljes about this and they say it should work at 1024x768 its the Native resolution. They are suggesting that it could be the video card in the computer. I have tried a laptop on it and it still can only do low resolution which we can live with, but its not working to speciation however the desktop now has nice big Icons so the kids like it!

I have had this issue with 2 of the projectors out of the 3 we purchased, Steljes has already replaced this one projector because the HDMI did not work on delivery. I just think we have bought a lemon that does not operate as it says it does. Hopefully Steljis will replace this one but they are putting me through lots of tests before they will come out. I wish I had purchased BENQ or Epson. I have not had any trouble with the other 30 projectors we have on site.

Have you tried using a separate VGA cable running directly between the PC and projector? When using VGA projectors have to "lock-on" to signal timing information that's sent to it along the VGA cable by the PC to show the correct resolution on screen. If the cable you're using is slightly damaged then picture data may be getting through properly but the timing information might not be.

You could also try doing a factory reset on the projector. You'll need to go into the service menu to do this, and make sure you know how to change the projector installation orientation before starting as it might flip the image upside down at the same time.

After much messing about trying leads directly into the projector etc, I switched the computer to the lowest resolution 640x480 the projector displayed that low resolution O.K. After a few days I upped the resolution to 1024 x 768 Guess what that worked! Its illogical to me, I dont understand it, but the projector has been fine ever since.
