forwardgreen Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I have a GPO to set all student laptops to have the same customized wallpaper however 1 machine just shows as black. The GPO is obviously working but this machine is resisting. On the client, the display setting show the correct wallpaper selected. I'm at a loss. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Joanne Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Ooohhh I had this a couple of years ago... a registry fix did the trick. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/11b982d0-c317-4a00-80f4-1ffd78523ff3/blank-black-desktop-in-windows-7-domain-pcs
mowgli82 Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 check the file size of the wallpaper it doesn't seem to like them over 800k
forwardgreen Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 Thanks for the quick replies. The registry key is in place, the wallpaper is the standard ing0.jpg so its under 800k. I created a new user but theres no change. Logging in as a network admin is fine. Its just the pupil logins that get it.
Novalee Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Could the WMI repository be corrupt? Try winmgmt /verifyrepository in CMD to see if it comes back as consistent or not.

AJWhite1970 Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Silly question but is the copy of Windows licensed? I had one do that and it was because it had lost contact with it's KMS server. As soon as I repaired it, it went back to normal. Never found out why, it never displayed the not licensed warning etc, I remember we lost hours trying to fix it...
Novalee Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Is consistent. Well that's me out of ideas!

Funny enough, it wasn't licensed, (thought i'd done it!) however it is now, no change. Baffling isn't it. It was a fresh build too.
Joanne Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Do the pupils have read access in the folder that the desktop wallpaper is located? Mine is in server\netlogon\environment
