YouTube channels

I'm probably grasping at straws here, but is there any way to only allow specific YouTube channels using smoothwall UTMs whilst having a general block on YouTube?

 

As usual I've got a last minute request that means the whole lesson plan will fall apart without this.....

Is this an occasion where the new restricted mode in youtube could be used? I havent tried it myself yet so cant comment if it would work or not.

We use the Restricted Mode. It can cause no end of problems as Teachers usually create their lesson's at home. Once they bring them into a school they find that most the links are restricted by our school policies.

It's a constant headache. Obviously they shouldn't base so much of their teaching on online sources.

I was wondering the same as you too but i have managed to get specific videos though the smoothwall by creating a new Custom Category called Youtube Allowed Videos, applying the Who, What, Where, When policy to it and sticking close to the top of the policy page. I've had to add ytimg.com to the custom category too.Students in Year 7 - 11 are denied access to youtube education but this means we can unblock specific videos.

 

I'm not quite sure how a channel or playlist is going to work unless you unblock the channel page or all the videos in the playlist .

Doesn't restricted mode work best when you have GAFE? If the staff created their lessons at home but logged into Chrome using their school credentials shouldn't they be able to see which videos are blocked or are you talking about links to websites in general?

Yeah I had to go with restricted, I can't be bothered trying to whitelist hundreds of videos!
