Laptop taking forever to load.

Hi

 

I have just got myself a nice new dual core HP laptop for work as my old one was starting to be a bit sluggish. The thing is that i have added it to the domain and when you turn the machine on it sits on the Running Startup Scripts.. bit for about 5-10minutes before it sends you to the logon screen.

 

I have tried RIS'ing it but it gives the message about not having the correct drivers for the network card. I have downloaded the latest set on drivers of the HP website and dropped them in the i386 folder.

 

Any ideas?

The drivers for the text mode part do not go in the i386. I've pasted my path below, just change the WINDOWSXPSP2 folder to your XP folder on your RIS server.

 

\\SERVERNAME\REMINST\Setup\English\Images\WINDOWSXP\$oem$\Textmode

 

You also need to add that path into your ristndrd.sif under the [unattended] section

OemPnPDriversPath= "Drivers\Textmode"

 

That should do it.

easiest way would be to use a volume XP/vista SP1 or 2 disk

 

and install it form that

 

 

failing that i recently bought a HP (three weeks ago) and you can use the recovery software by pressing F11 at boot...

 

its actually quite good, the windows image that came factory installed (you would think it was the same as the one stored in recovery :\) kept blue screening on me following a vista update....

 

but its running perfect after using the recovery program

@quackers we have a folder called PNPRDrivers with folders inside that call VGA, LAN etc these are then all referenced in the sif file, i did find a spelling mistake so i will try again.

 

@greenfield i am getting this error from the standard HP image, i have just added it to the domain!

 

I have just checked the event log on the laptop once has finally let me in and it has an error "Execution of GPO Scripts has timed out and have been terminated." Event ID 1217 - this is strange as every other machine is fine??
