robjduk Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I know this is lazy of me and sorry in advance but am looking for any known "gotchas" with deploying Autocad on a network. I am bloody busy at the moment and a couple of teachers have decided they want to run the F1 Autocad competition. I asked a tech to deploy it but he ran into issues after declaring the network install method is never going to work, performed a few local installs and said something about needing access to the default profile on the machine.... He then went to Florida for 2 weeks so my Monday job is to knock this thing out as soon as humanly possible. As I said, lazy sounding I know to ask for help before even looking properly at the thing but if anyone out there knows of any obvious issues with the thing I would so appreciate. My job list is getting out of hand and cant cope with another "install software just to find error after bloody error". Thank you all in advance. Stressed and miserable network manager!
robjduk Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 Somehow managed to place this in here rather than educational software thread. Sorry folks.
free780 Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Run the network installer create a deployment. Put the deployment somewhere where your users have read access. You have to deploy via script or sccm. Its a setup.exe that runs various MSIs.
Norphy Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 In my experience, as long as you have a proper network license, the licensing server is a bit of a pain in the bum but the actual deployment process is relatively straightforward and reliable. Read the documentation and you won't go far wrong. It's a big package though so make sure that your deployment infrastructure is up to it!
free780 Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 And have enough space on c drive. You can make a deployment with a standalone licence. However you need to activate. The licence server requires a fixed Mac address.
robjduk Posted November 9, 2015 Author Posted November 9, 2015 thank you all. I am not 100% there yet as there are some ports being blocked on the licence server but it seems to deploy quite well for something which is about 17GB and should have it sorted by late morning.
