Suspected MacBook Pro logic board fault

Hi there,

I have a macbook pro which is failing to boot.

I have taken the back off and can see there appears some corrosion around the battery connector and one of the capacitors near by.

Does anyone with any experience of this know if this would be the cause?

This is a 2011 model.

From the many hundreds of similar pictures on Imgur /techsupportgore that does look like the sort of terminal damage MBP logic boards seem to suffer (not encountered it myself).

I got it checked at apple and the answer was that as you said, they believe the logic board has failed. No reasons as to why, just that it will need replacing at a cost of £381.60.

The question is, should this really be failing on a 4 year old laptop? If it were a Toshiba or similar, you could just write it off, but a +£1000 laptop failing at 4 years old is not that good.

It looks like liquid damage and it's probably repairable. Some of the equivalent priced Windows laptops take measures to stop water ingress Apple do not.

Apple seem to think the only way to get it working is to replace the logic board rather than repair.

Not sure if it is worth the £400 bill from Apple.

Yes, this is the standard response from Apple, they don't do component repair only replace new logic boards. I was thinking more third party repairer.

My 2012 MacBook Pro had this same issue. Apple wanted £400 to replace the logic board, obviously I said no. I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled ios and it works perfectly again. Not saying it will defo work for you but it might be worth giving that a go first
