Unusual slowness of 2 machines

I have a problem with unusual slowness of a couple of stone machines on our site, and I can't google it, because that search is juts inundated with c**p they both are basically crawling along doing network stuff, they are starting up as normal and getting to the F12 prompt and into our build area, but refusing to build, they are running at about 10% of the speed that they normally would be expected to operate.

 

I have changed hard disks in the device and checked the switching and patch cables (replacing the cables with new ones) but that hasn't had any effect, I have moved them across campus too, but its still exhibiting that behaviour in my office (its not anything wrong with the area, other machines on that switch have rebuilt at max speed and our usual 12 minutes to reimage, I have tried a secondary network card also to see if the onboard NIC was an issue, but thats worked at the same pace with the machines.

 

I am at the last resort of testing tomorrow where I will be running memtest+, but I was wondering if anyone had this problem with Stone machines before, their out of warranty by about 18 months and the standard intel board that you get in one of them. I am thinking its a possible motherboard issue looking at them both, they have the same symptoms

Which stone computers are these?

 

I would try an bios update? Check to see if the sata speed has been turned down (running at sata 1 instead of sata 3 or 6.

Its a System-211 from them, I checked the BIOS as it is at the moment and IDE/AHCI makes no difference to performance on these machines, but I will look for a BIOS update for the board and see how its going.

 

At the moment, I have it rebuilding, but its doing nothing pretty much, a normal machine takes 12 minutes here, but this one has been on since 7:30 this morning when I got in and its not done anything of note, although it looks like its building.

It's not a sandy bridge machine is it? They had an issue with the SATA controllers degrading on the boards

The board model is an Intel DG33BU not sure if its a Sandybridge - I didnt think BIOS because these machines have always worked since I started at the school and developed the fault long after their installation.

 

I have just used the BIOS Update on the three of them and it seems to have fixed things on rebooting with the new BIOS, I have the three machines re-imaging at the moment as a test, their no longer crawling along, I now have 47 machines to go as their part of a 50 batch bought at once and I think some preventative maintenance is in order on these to eek the life out on them.
