but isnt your thumbprint on the reader from the last time you used it probably usable and depending on the parameters it use push something like a warm jelly baby against it so it reacts roughly the same as your finger and represses the existing print

but how does it detect that? would heating up a dismembered finger (or hollowing it out and putting hot water inside) be enough to fool the sensor

They mention in the article that you'd lack the capacitive charge to trigger the sensor and the radio frequencies are poorly picked up by dead tissue.
