Windows Update causes blue screen

My brain is on it's last legs, but i have a laptop that everytime i install the updates the laptop reboots and then blue screens.

 

It's running 8.1 and after booting into safe mode and it rolling back the updates, there are logs in the event viewer that mention the following;

 

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8007045B: Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3087390)

 

I'm currently running a sfc scan, does anyone have any other ideas?

Maybe try running the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter? Since that update doesn't appear to be a security update, you might as well skip it for now. Perhaps Microsoft will get enough telemetry back on that patch and reissue it at a later time. I suppose it couldn't hurt to attempt installing it manually to see if you have the experience.
