Bleedin' heck I had forgotten that mnemonic completely!

 

Though I forget most things math's related - I'm hopeless at it!

 

The wife can rattle of numbers to me and I lose her after the 3rd number as she calmly and like a friggin computer adds them up as she goes..

It is a way of remembering how to derive trig functions:

 

The SOH in SOHCAHTOA reminds you that it is Opposite/Hypotenuse for Sin. Cosine [CAH] is Adjacent/Hypotenuse. Tangent [TOA] is Opposite/Adjacent.

yes that much I remember but its still a completely useless bit of memory as I still cant remember how to actually use the knowledge (like knowing what a door handle is what its for but not that you push it down/rotate it)

Probably saying things you also still remember here: You can use the trig functions to calculate the length of a line in a triangle given some other quantities or an angle in a triangle given some other quantities. How this is done isn't too involved but might be a bit tricky to go over it in any depth here. I will try to find a YouTube video that summarises it nicely. Back soon...
