Evening All,

Just looking at plans for replacing part of our switch setup and was wondering about whether it's worth getting some extra fibre links put in place (seeing this will be a 5~ year plan).

Currently running a single 10Gb link between server rooms, but looking at whether it's worth getting a few more in (Whether using a Chassis or stacked switches at end to support).

Got approx. 200~ machines running per server room, so obviously there's effectively 400 running back along the 10Gb fibre to the main servers so 3Mb~ if it's maxing out. (Or even less due to current limitations on switch uplinks).

Just wondering how much people have paid for Fibre runs before as never had to get one done before, talking approx. maybe 50m runs and thinking about getting 8 core (cables?) lines each way to get 40Gb backbone (Rough pricing obviously know it may vary depending on things)

Thanks,

Steve

I have just been quoted £885 to do 150m run for 8 core.

Thank you :)

Pleasantly surprised with that! Thought it would be much more

Out of curiosity seeing you said 8, are you going for 40Gb or was it separate lines?

Thanks,

Steve

Basically our server room is 150m away and we still have separate networks admin and curriculum due to Sefton councils intranet and a few other things. So we have to have fibre to the office cab so they can access these things. That's the only reason we have got fibre.
