First Time Giving Student Email Example of Info For Students Needed

I have bit the bulliit and gone with o365 for students email i was wondering about other peoples experiences of the impact on education behaviour etc.

 

If anyone would like to share student do's and dont's that would be really good.

 

Typing up my usage policy at the moment and want to cover every angle, safeguarding etc

Have you still got an onpremise exchange server for staff emails or are they hosted on o365 too?

 

We have mail flow rules set on our student o365, staff are still onpremise. Students cannot aend emails to each other and and only send emails to staff, all other external communication is blocked. We have added custom domains such as Vivomiles and systems that we use in school.

 

I have stated that we as admins have access to all mailboxes and staff can access them if required via us.

 

Trying to get our lot to use them is painful but ive done my bit, its up to SLT, heads of departments and year heads to do their bit. Some still dont know its a great way of communication even if its a case of getting information out.

Still have separate on site for now hybrid will have to wait just waiting for isp to change some mx records.

Ahhh ok.. i created a sub domain of students.domain.co.uk which seemed the easiest option to me.

If like me, staff are onpremise, you may have to create contacts for students emails so staff can email students and contacts on o365 for students to email staff.

 

This is one major downside to it which can cause extra work but if you dont mind this then it works well.

Iv done the same with mail flow rules. They can't email one another or externally. I get a copy of all mail sent from kids too. There aren't that many to be honest yet as this is fairly new. I will be turning that off soon as more and more use it .

 

Iv done some distro groups are classes in sims etc so teachers can quickly email a class or I have created a teachers of... Group so that all teachers of a pupil get an email.

Can I just ask why you wouldn't let the kids email each other? At our infant school we let them email from year 1 (in reception, the literacy levels are generally too low!). At secondary, almost all of them will be using some kind of electronic means to communicate - and from an e-safety point if view, they'd have much better protection on your school's O365 than almost anything else.

It was a decision made by senior management to minimise disruption. I think it may be something to review in the future though

Its to cut down on bullying and sharing homework between students, ie one student does thr work and emails it to everyone in the class.

 

Its bad enough with facebook at the moment, we dont want another system to monitor.
