Cannot install SQL 2014 Express on CC4

I am trying to install SQL 2014 Express on a CC4 server. I keep getting the following:

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following errors

. hexadecimal value 0x00 is an invalid character. Line 1 Position 189889. Error code 0x84B10001

Sql server failed to install correctly. SQL EXPR_X64-ENU.exe failed (-2057043967)

 

From a previous forum, I redownloaded a new copy of the installer.

I have removed RMAUDITPRINTERCREDITS from programs

 

I have tried multiple Microsoft threads to no avail, and when I type in the error, it comes up with zilch.

What permissions/polices is the server pulling off the domain and what account are you trying to install it with?

 

You can use the Capita SQL express installer that will have the correct settings rather than one off the MS website.

Thanks Banjo. I have used both the Capita SQL Express installer. Then I downloaded the SQL EXPR_x64_ENU.exe from the MS site and tried that too. Same problem same error.

If I recall correctly, as well as the rm printer credit/auditor system there was another database interfering that RM didn't seem to know about - I *think*, but can't be sure, it was the windows internal database (WID) that was serving something related to CC4.

I would really very strongly advise against installing SQL or anything relying on it on an RM server, certainly for SIMS. The speed difference in SIMS going from a CC4 server with SIMS on SQL Express to a vanilla Windows server hosting everything including SQLE and SIMS was astonishing.

Given the chance, RM would have everything running on dBase.

I wouldn't install SIMS on a server with anything else on it at all - its slow and memory hungry at the best of times, let alone with other applications etc. I assume that it isn't a domain controller?

 

Do you have the option of installing it on a vanilla server with nothing else on?

 

Although its not ideal, have you tried installing it as another domain admin user (systemadmin for example) or the local administrator for that server?
