We are thinking of purchasing a few Mimio bars so we can turn our normal Whiteboards into interactive ones. We currently have a ceiling mounted Projector in this rooms and would like to put a few Mimio's in them. I had a look at the Mimio stand at Bett and was very impressed with them for the price.

We want to use these for a number of reasons but mainly to keep the cost down of turning the rooms into interactive.

I also quite liked the capture version but i don't think this would really be needed in this case.

Hi Kyle we have a mimo unit that i found acouple of months ago and spent half a day trying to get it to work and gave up in the end. But it is about 3 or 4 years old though it looks good but i could not get the thing to talk to the machine.

We have had a couple of these things for at least two years and they seem to function quite well and quite reliably. There was one teacher that was using it with the Windows XP handwriting recognition for demoing certain stuff in word which was good. The markers on the ones that we have are quite chunky though. One is USB based the other is slightly older and is serial/ps2 based but we got generic usb adapters that converted it to a USB one without any hassle.

Did you use the wireless version or the one connected via USB?

If I understand/remember correctly, Mimio wireless uses the same chunk of bandwidth as 802.11 protocols, possibly creating interference with your existing wireless network. I'd stick with the USB version (or ask them to hurry up with the Bluetooth version).

I seen these at BETT and we are interested in these also.

The price was relatively cheap if it does the job as it should do. We will probably get a couple of these to tral before we make a decision if we finish off our remaining 14 non IWB rooms.

We've got the old serial connector mimio's on a few whiteboards but they're being retired PDQ due to unreliability... Something tells me you're referring to much more recent models though.

Bringing this one one back from a while ago, I think I am going to purchase one of these as a test to see if they will be suitable for us. Can anybody recommend a UK supplier?

Thanks

I had a Cleverboard in my classroom based on Mimio technology. The sensitivity was poor - not a patch on a promethean/smart IWB. I was glad to get rid of it. I know that the technology has probably moved on since I had mine but I certainly wouldn't have another - then again they are better than nothing....
