creative cloud / cs6 alternatives

Hi Guys,

 

We're quite behind the times as far as our software is concerned as we're still making do with adobe CS3 and the Macromedia 2004 suite. So I've just looked into adobe's latest offering of creative cloud, after receiving a quote which obviously includes our educational discount I'm not sure the powers that be are going to greet this £20k+ annual subscription with open arms. So I'm guessing we're not the only school that can't afford this, anyone on here got a good alternative? I was hoping it would still be possible to buy cs6 outright but this does not seem to be the case, anyone else in a similar position?

Adobe actually now have a licensing model similar to Microsoft EE and it is done by your staff count rather than computers or students, I actually was impressed with the quote I got from "Softcat" yesterday which had the Adobe cloud as one of the quotes I had asked for and it was far less than what you have been quoted, PM me for details.

pm sent to bossman, but out of interest are there any other software packages that people would recommend that rival the adobe suite
