I've noticed that recently at some point the compass on my OnePlus One has broken. Not sure exactly when but I only noticed when I tried to use Google Sky Map.

The last time I noticed it working was in June.

There are many reports of the compass being broken due to a recent update when encryption was added (CM12 IIRC).

Could someone with a stock OPO please check if theirs is in the same condition too as it may be I have to swap over to a differnt ROM to enable it again which many have reported as fixing the issue.

Apparently OnePlus are a bit reluctant to adress the issue judging by some of the forum posts I've read elsewhere.

I wondered why Sky Map was all sorts of funky. Cannot get it to face some directions at all. Grr! 5 years I've had that app on phones, and it's only as I start to get into astronomy and going out with a telescope that I get a phone that breaks it.

This is stock CM12S, not rooted, CyanogenOS version 12.1-YO4PAS1N0. All sorts of jittery in Sky Map and won't face South at all.

Cheers. The HW is not broken btw, just the software.

Is anyone using an aftermarket ROM in their OPO? @Domino, you have one don't you? Do you have a non-standard ROM installed or you can recommend?

Noticed my compass was funkyfied when using Sky Map around the time of the partial eclipse. That was on 12.0, and now on 12.1 and just rooted it and it's the same.

Apparently the issue is with CM12 but not everyone gets affected.

I'll let you all know how the factory reset goes.
