Hi,

I have some Lenovo laptops with Hybrid (500gb/8gb) drives. I was expecting 2 separate drives eg c: SSD and d: Mechanical however as most of you probably know they don't work like that. As I understand it, they are really a mechanical drive with a big cache that is non-volatile and some firmware that decides which files go where.

My question is, I want to deploy an image to these laptops using WDS and answer files. The answer file I am about to use wipes all the partitioning and reformats and repartitions the drive. Will this cause a problem or will the drive be unaffected by this? I obviously don't want to lose the advantage of SSD.

Thanks

Dave

the SSD part of the hybrid drive is as you say a cache area wiping the drives wont cause an issue imo. as the drive is used the drive decides which files are moved to the cache.

It will be fine since 99% of SSHDs appear as a single drive.

The only one that doesn't is the WD Black2 Dual Drive and your laptops don't have those. :)
