Remove Hyper-V Replication. How easy?

Have a spare i7 32gb ram machine that i would like to use temporarily too replicate my hyper-v server.

 

In the next year well be able to buy a second proper server but rather not wait until then to get a backup server in.

 

If i were to use this machine as a hyper-v replica in 2012 R2, how easy would it be to remove it again and add the new server when it arrives?

Should be just a case of removing the replication then reinstating it to the new server. Replication is only one way so you haven't got to worry about the old secondary server.

Just to check, you do separate backups too? Hyper-v replication is good for a failover server but not data recovery

I implmented Hyper-V Replica on 2012 R2, its very easy to remove the replica or disable the replica.

 

Replica does have limitations though you need to be aware of, some useful info:

Thanks Both and the links Ian,

 

We have our primary DC on a physical box and the secondary as a virtual on another machine. So as they are 2008 r2 machines theres no point replicating the virtual DC by the looks of it. Just recreate if needed.
