randle Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I pretty much always use the quick reply box at the bottom of the page but feel this should be above the "similar threads" section as often i can't type and see the last post on the screen at the same time. Just a suggestion
enjay Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Agreed - also, some of the "similar threads" are several years old, so probably not very, if at all, relevant today.
EduTech Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 That a good sugestion. althouigh you can actually minimize the similar threads section.. pressing the two little arrows pointing up on the top right hand of the box will minimize it So that would do more or less the same thing anyway Regards James
ZeroHour Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Well you can minimise it for now... The reason its above is to try and prevent multiple threads about the same subject. We are looking at pruning some of the older threads possibly but at least you can see the last post date.
enjay Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 The reason its above is to try and prevent multiple threads about the same subject. How exactly does it prevent that, since you don't see it until after you've posted?
Geoff Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 How exactly does it prevent that, since you don't see it until after you've posted? Unfortunately the forum software is not physic, more over it has no facility to force people to search for a topic prior to posting it. If the 'similar threads' make you look silly when starting a new thread. You have a few minutes in which you can delete your new thread IIRC.

ZeroHour Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I am working on a bit of AJAX to inform users if there is a similar title to the thread when they are composing a new post. That should help prevent duplicate threads as well. Right now I would just use the minimise button but I actually love the similar threads area but I will have a think on what to do. Cheers for the feedback
