Bypass for local addresses not bypassing

Hi all,

 

I've relatively recently started at a new school and we have a strange problem here. Our IP range is x.x.2.x to x.x.3.x with a subnet mask of 255.255.254.0. I have a bunch of devices on the network which I can http to, Sharp copiers, Dell's iDRAC (6 & 7), Fujitsu's ServerView, HP's iLO, HP switches and a Netgear Wireless controller. In my PROXY settings I have "Bypass PROXY for local addresses" ticked however I can't log in to any of them unless I add their IP address as an exception. The login page is presented, but when I have entered the credentials it just reloads the login page. Add it to the exceptions and it all works fine. Surely if I'm bypassing for local addresses, I shouldn't need to add them to the exceptions should I?

As well as ticking the box I always add in 10.*; etc into the do not use proxy server for addresses starting...

Thanks, I've done that and it's obviously easier than adding them all individually and I'm slightly annoyed with myself that didn't even occur to me, but it shouldn't be necessary though should it? The iPads won't access the internal addresses at all with the PROXY on, and I can't add exceptions on them. Something in my IP/DNS setup somewhere?
