Explorer is "refreshing"??

I've discovered a bit of a weird thing on our Windows Server 2008 servers, hosts for our RDS clients

 

During summer school, it was brought to my attention that, as a child was saving something in, for example, Word, as they were typing a filename in the Save As box, everything was suddenly being highlighted and then deleted when they typed again. I thought this was a one off and thought nothing of it.

Today was Y7 first IT lessons and it happened with a lot of them, too.

 

So, I've just jumped on one of the servers as administrator and it's happening to me, too! Go to type something in the Save As box and, after a few seconds, it's highlighted and you end up deleting what you've typed.

If I leave everything alone, every few second the egg timer flashes up next to the cursor. I can't see anything unusual in the process list or any error or warning in the event log. I assume it might be a Windows Update applied over summer.

 

Anyone shed any light?

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?" I just had to say it. :-) Seriously though. After that, I would look for some odd-ball software that might be causing it. It could also be your group policy refresh times causing it.
