samwells1234 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Hi All, I need help with changing the theme back to the default windows 7 theme. The issue is that some staff now load up in a windows 95 style theme. The reason why I had a play about was because staff needed a red task bar and students were going to have the default blue task bar so we could see if a student was logged on as a member of staff. I don't know what its done but it won't go back even when I removed the group policy. I'm using server 2008 R2. Please Help
3s-gtech Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 We had to go through a few fun things to force the Windows 7 Aero theme. Once it's set per user, it's a swine to change even with GP. In the end, we found a registry setting that helps to force it (while keeping the GP settings in place). Set this as a GPP Registry setting (User Configuration). Action Update Properties Hive HKEY_CURRENT_USER Key path Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization Value name ThemeFile Value type REG_SZ Value data %systemroot%\Resources\themes\aero.theme This ensured that Aero (with Glass) was set, even when the graphics driver had bugged out previously and set their user profile to Basic theme.
samwells1234 Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 see I cant find the personalization part in the key path section
samwells1234 Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 I can go as far as Software\policies\Microsoft\Windows\. There is no personalization part :-/
3s-gtech Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 You can create it though, and if you're administering it from the server remember that the registry paths may be different on clients.
