Restore iPads -Quick way for 80 of them to be done.

Hi

 

We need to erase the contents of 80 or so iPads, so they can be rebuilt and handed out clean to new starters. Any ideas on the best way. Filewave MDM is used, but wiping from here means a real pain of renaming them and creating new Apple IDs for them all.

Any thoughts?

Using Apple Configurator on a Mac is the easiest way to do this - as long as you have a cart or hub that allows syncing. You won't be able to do 80 in one go but you should be able to put your MDM on and I would still supervise the devices for the greater level of control a and ability to remove Apple IDs.. I'm not familiar with Filewave but it should have that functionality

Thanks Big Bird. We already use configurator and Filewave to manage them, but configurator does not remove installed apps, which is what we need to do. The only thing we can think of is to remove the passcodes and then restore to factory settings and then push through configurator and then filewave. A very long tiring process.

If you are using Filewave as an MDM why not just reset them all using this?

When we wipe them in Filewave it removes them from the MDM, and 'blocks' the device id and we have to go through and manually remove the device id from filewave lists, which takes an age.

Hi Jallsop, if you can get those iPad into the DEP Programm via the store you bought them, They will automatically re enroll into FileWave. SO you only need to enter the DEP enrollment Password. Afaik you can also get them into DEP unless they are bought later them 3 Years ago. I hope that helps a bit

You can wipe them with configurator which will wipe them back to factory default.

Hello Zhinkler, You can laos mass wipe them in FileWave, as long as they are in DEP they will automatically re-enroll withthe name you give in the DEP Profile, or new the ASM Profile. That will solve most of your Problem also this is the only way to make the MDM Profile stick, meaning that the iPad user cannot remove it, causing all the Apps to uninstall. I really think DEP if available in your Country is my Best Practice advice. It simply saves a lot of time having to manually prepare (supervise) the Devices
