Hyper V Server Upgrade

Hi

Some advice please on evicting a clustered HV server

 

We are planning to upgrade our Hyper V servers from 2008R2 to 2012R2 as part of a SAN upgrade.

Current configuration is have 5 x Clustered 2008R2 Nodes of various ages with p2000 SAN. We aim to reduce the number of hosts on the current cluster from 5 to 3 and use two of the better hosts with a fresh 2012r2 install as well as a brand new 2012r2 host in a new cluster and new SAN. Once we have migrated all VM's off the old San on to the new, the old cluster will be destroyed and all servers will be decommissioned

 

Although It looks straight forward I always have that nagging doubt and I wondered if anyone has experience and words of wisdom evicting a node. is it as straight forward as they make it sound

 

Steps

in Failover Cluster Manager, migrate all Services and Applications off the proposed evicted node

right click node

Evict node

remove HV role

remove from domain

turn off

I would also ensure the new Cluster has its access removed from the old 2008r2 Cluster Shared Disks to prevent the 2012r2 Servers from claiming the disks. I think I did this on the P2000 Controller itself.
