IT Support Technician (Apprentice) - Collaton St Mary Primary School

 

Collaton St Mary is a popular, over-subscribed Church of England Primary School, within Torbay Local Authority. The school has with seven classes – Year R to Year 6.

Job description & tasks:

ICT in schools is very multi-dimensional. Our administration depends on it to function, teachers use it constantly to deliver lessons and pupils regard it as a constant resource that they use as readily as pen and paper. The use of ICT within and across the school has contributed significantly towards our success particularly in terms of supporting teaching and learning and the systems that underpin the work of the school. The safeguarding of students and staff is our priority ensuring that there is an environment for all to learn safely.

You will be working primarily at Collaton St Mary, but also will be regularly trained and supervised at Shiphay Learning Academy, joining a dynamic ‘Techies’ Team responsible for all aspects of ICT. Over time, as your confidence grows, your role will include but will not be limited to:

- Responding to first level queries;

- Communicating effectively and liaising with other support team members in a clear, concise and professional manner;

- Proactively responding to support requests;

- Troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with PCs, Macs, handhelds, peripherals and other hardware;

- Developing our Website and Learning Platform;

- Supporting installation of new hardware, software etc;

- Assisting in the maintenance of ICT hardware, including replacement, repair and disposal (following WEE guidelines);

- Carrying out project based work with the support of the IT Technical team;

- Resolving connectivity issues and fault finding;

- Keeping hardware, software and our network running smoothly;

- Maintaining records and documentation;

- Performing basic operations within the network e.g. password resets, restore data from backup, printer credits etc;

- Helping to maintain security and e-safety;

- Supporting school events where technologies are utilised;

- Undertaking statutory training as required;

- Supporting children and teachers in learning using ICT in the classroom;

- When you feel confident, you may wish to offer a lunchtime or afterschool ICT club for a group of our children.

Training:

There will be a planned provision for on-the-job training managed by Shiphay Learning Academy, the local Lead school for ICT in the Local Authority delivered by the Technologies Manager. You will enrol upon the IT Practitioners apprenticeship course level 2 or 3 at Exeter College and ensure regular attendance on a day release basis each week.

To work towards a Level 2 or 3 programme in ITP. We will be ambitious for you to be successful and seek further qualifications.

Entry Requirements:

This is an outstanding opportunity for a committed and skilled individual, aged 16 - 23, to begin their career in IT and we are seeking a candidate with high potential.

The successful candidate will:

- Be enthusiastic with a positive and professional attitude and the willingness to learn;

- Have a flexible and helpful attitude and have the ability to work proactively;

- Be willing to work as part of a team and support colleagues in all areas of the organisation;

- Like working with people; both adults and children;

- Have a strong interest and experience in the use and application of ICT;

- Have a passion to learn more about IT and bring that to our school to help our learners;

- Have at least 5 GSCE’s including Maths and English;

- Be well organised or working towards it!

This post is available on a fixed term contract for 18-24 months depending on level of study.

The hours will be worked flexibly during 9am - 3.30pm (Monday - Friday) with the occasional evening for school events. This includes one day per week training at Exeter College, and one day per week at Shiphay Learning Academy.
