Management Training/Qualification

Afternoon, hope everyone's summer is going well?

 

I'm after some advice! Although I have been working in my current role (ICT Network Manager) for around 4 years now my line manager has suggested that I go on a management course to help develop my skills for the "next step" and so I would like to take this opportunity to gain a new qualification. I have been looking at the ITL L5 Award in Leadership and Management but not sure what else to look at.

 

Any suggestions?

Does your school offer any middle leaders or senior leaders training for teaching staff? They aren't totally relevant but can be worthwhile.

 

I put myself through an OU course: S01 - Professional Certificate in Management - Open University it was much cheaper when I did it though.

 

Alternatively some Universities have evening classes for management training.

 

Don't forget the self study option - something like the 10 minute manager books can give a good insight into a few areas.

I took this after doing the level 3 alongside the NVQ equivalent also in 6 months as my tutor took ill after the first month but the college didn't let me know until half the course had gone time wise, great insight into how management and leadership are tuned to the organisation and how to develop and encourage the staff by using different management and leadership tools.

 

All the same it didn't help me in my present employment as educational development is usually about the teaching but if you are lucky enough to have a good leadership team who recognise your good work and how it impacts the wholeschool from the top down and backup again then go for it you won't regret as this accreditation can be used in all walks of life.
