upgrading Unifi from 2.4.4 to latest

Hi

 

We have our Unifi controller running on windows 2008R2 VM which has worked great, it has come to Summer and I am thinking of updating the controller from 2.4.4 to 4.6.6

 

I have read that you need to have the Controller on Version 3 before attempting this

 

So I am planning to

 

update 2.4.4 to 3.2.10

 

then from 3.2.10 to 4.6.6

 

So do I backup the Unifi config through the webrowser, remove 2.4.4 from the Server, then install 3.2.10..restore the config, test then do the same sequence to 4.6.6 ?

Sounds like a reasonable plan do you have to remove 2.4.4 though or will 3.2.10 remove it as part of the install?

Back up your config, but I'm pretty sure if you stop the service, run the new install, then start it again it will keep all your info and migrate it to the newer version.

Seemed not to go as smoothly as I had hoped!

 

It did indeed upgrade over the top of 2.4.4 (from 3.2.10) but the Unifi controller won't start afterwards

 

I have removed the whole instance now and installing from clean (also installing latest Java to version 8, both 32 bit and 64bit)

 

it installs but when I click on the UniFi Shortcut generated it asj for the program location?

 

any advice appreciated!

ok had to edit the Shortcut to point to correct Java location, now restoring DB and fingers crossed!

Got it installed at home - greatly improved GUI imo. It seems clearer despite having more information on the screen at one time. Couldn't tell you whether there's any performance improvement - the controller doesn't get much of a work out at home!

 

I'll be updating the controller at school later in the week - hopefully that'll go as smoothly as it has at home. When I ran the installer, it just asked if I wanted to upgrade from 3.2.1 to 4.6.6. It took about 15 seconds and then a bit longer to restart the controller. All settings were maintained.

Upgraded here now, I moved it onto a 2012r2 server instead of linux.

I really like the new interface and it even adopted a new AP without an issue (the linux one never could I had to do a workaround)

 

Big test is when everyone is back!

 

Forgot to say,

 

Linux was on 3.2.10, I backed up on that and imported it onto the the new server running 4.6.6 with no real issues (Just one - it seems to have lost the measurements on the maps but that was just a minor niggle)
