Simcfc73 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Hi, We are looking at this for our school but a bit unsure, primarily as it seems great for tablet but we don't have them. I like the idea of it saving passwords for multiple sites, and I suppose we could use it with our chromebooks but mostly interested in the remote file access. I have been using HAP for a while now which is great but need something which integrates and is easy for me to administer.
DrCheese Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I looked at it mostly for the HTML 5 RDP stuff, but it's very slow We're getting this instead. HTML5 RDP Client - Web Based Remote Desktop | Ericom
Markopolo Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) We have it currently, the only bit we use is the rdp over html and remote file upload / download. There are plenty of alternatives out there -Magellan's rdp over html is powered by guacamole and you could use HAP+ for the remote file upload/download. Bit of work to get those two running, but no annual licensing cost! Edited July 11, 2015 by Markopolo
AlanD Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Just came across Magellan. Wondered how it compared (functionality and cost) with RMs Unify Product. Not sure I would be running RDP into my school network at all. Sounds like an easy target for any ransom ware attack from an external PC.
Simcfc73 Posted August 14, 2017 Author Posted August 14, 2017 Bumpety Bump Anyone out there still using this? We've had it a couple of years and its fine.... there rollout of updates is shocking but they are pushing their cloud based system now. I really want MFA to work with it (preferably Azure like I have in OWA) but they are a bit slack (except when they are chasing a renewal.
AlanD Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 OK - so http/RDP stuff works...if a bit slow. You use this for what? To allow teachers to access their desktop in school? Students too? Is this considered safe if the home computer is compromised. And do you use the password sync/remembering for students? Office 365? Google? Kerboodle? Does it work OK? File upload/download? So this allows students and teachers access to their "my Documents" and Shared Areas? So can students use this from a VLAN'd BYOD with tablets to access their files?
Simcfc73 Posted August 15, 2017 Author Posted August 15, 2017 We just use it for teachers to access SIMS and accessing their remote drives. Never bothered with the password sync and it seems faffy... they can access their files from the BYOD too. Don't think anyone uses it in school tbh...why would they.
DrCheese Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 I wasn't impressed with now little this had improved when I saw it at BETT again this year, Our Ericom system is used heavily every night & gets updatedly fairly often (They've just added support for server 2016) - Baffles me that they aren't pushing it more into the education market as it's just so good.
kidpressingbuttons Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Liked the look of it. Not the cost. Set up my own guacamole server in Linux- which Magellan works from. Then used Hap for file access if they don't want the full rdp experience. Set up the same at my new school. But now using guacamole and foldr. Works great! If you want the password reset stuff set up the azure self service.
Simcfc73 Posted August 22, 2017 Author Posted August 22, 2017 They told me they aren't updating the local version and concentrating on their cloud version. It can integrate with Azure for MFA so I'm going to try this....as its a free upgrade.
