DCUK6 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) Have a ext HDD that works perfectly in windows 8, it's still named passport so can't see them reformatting it. When you plug it in, it lights up but you don't get a thing in windows, no installing message or anything in device manager. Disk manager does t show it either. Plugged in my stick and it worked fine. Plugged the HDD into a surface tab and it worked fine. I've updated the USB drivers so there aren't any unknown devices listed. Any ideas? ZeroHour Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Tried a different port? I have seen occasions when something glitches enabling the drives usb driver and the easiest way to fix it was to switch the port.
NviGate_Systems Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Just for kicks, check in Windows 8 what format the disk is in and partition layout in Disk Manager. Windows 7 plays nice with many things but some things just knock it off balance. Also I do know many drives these days are getting firmware updates, so it's worth checking if there is a firmware update too. Won't be the last time a firmware upgrade fixed wacky behavior.
