michaelt1979 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 We have a students whose surname contains an ń (i.e. n with an acute accent). On trying to enter this as part of her name listing, it automatically reverts to a standard 'n'. Is this just a result of a limitation of accepted characters for names, and is there any way around it?
michaelt1979 Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Apologies - I meant to post in the SIMS.Net forum - is there a way of moving the post?
jinnantonnixx Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 It's almost certainly by design. Although it's perfectly possible, and sometimes desirable, to store unicode characters in a database, searching and sorting is a nightmare as an accented 'n' is a completely different character code than a standard 'n'. These two 'n's are worlds apart, as far as the ordering is concerned. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unicode_characters#Latin-1_Supplement
PhilNeal Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Unicode characters are supported in user defined fields but not elsewhere
