Arthur Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Source: Mojang We have exciting news to share! A whole new version of Minecraft is on its way. This time, it’s for Windows 10 – Microsoft’s new swanky operating system that’s due for release on 29th July. We’re calling it Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta. Just like the first release of Minecraft all those years ago, this version will develop and evolve over time with the help of your feedback. That’s why it has “Beta” in the title – because it’s not quite finished, and will become even more fun over time. Just like the other versions of Minecraft, all future updates will be free. We spoil you. We really do. If you’re one of the 20 million(!) players who have the PC edition of Minecraft (referred to by techy people as the Java version) you'll be able to download Windows 10 Edition Beta from the Windows 10 store for free. Other players can get it for the paltry price of $10 during the beta period (the length of which is still being decided). Minecraft is available on Windows, Mac, Windows Phone, iOS, Android, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PS Vita, and now, Windows 10. Not every version of Minecraft is exactly the same, but they all feature two distinct game modes – Creative and Survival – that cater to different types of players. All versions of Minecraft support multiplayer. You’ll recognise some Pocket Edition features in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta, along with potpourri of cool extras. Here are some highlights: Craft, create, and explore online with up to seven friends playing Windows 10 Edition Beta, through local multiplayer or with your Xbox Live friends online. Play online and local multiplayer with other Pocket Edition players thanks to a free update, due to arrive soon after launch. Multiple control schemes! Switch between controller, touch, and keyboard controls with little to no effort! Record and share gameplay highlights with built-in GameDVR. Help shape the future of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta with our built player feedback mechanisms! Chickens, zombies, pigs, boats, armed skeletons, potatoes, zombies, baby squids, enchantment tables, villagers, naked sheep, iron golems, potions, ghasts, pickaxes, carrots, and all the weird and wonderful goodness you’ve come to expect from Minecraft. We hope you’re as excited as us for Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta. It’s gonna be cool! http://i.imgur.com/lGPVWnX.png 4
JRowley Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 But can you still mod it, if not then it's a waste of most peoples time.
GuyJD Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Sweet! I already own the PC version so a free version to play with is always good
LosOjos Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 But can you still mod it, if not then it's a waste of most peoples time. I'm sure there'll be a ton of happy kids (and parents!) who are less tech savvy and just want to play the game without messing around with Java settings. I'm sure that's why it's so popular on consoles despite it being quite a stripped down version of the PC version. Besides that, I can't imagine MS being daft enough to cut off the modding community, after all that is a huge part of the appeal for many. At a guess, it'll be .NET based so mods will likely be via C#, which isn't a million miles away from Java in terms of syntax so shouldn't be too difficult for existing modders to pick up if they've not used it before.

ataylor Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Craft, create, and explore online with up to seven friends playing Windows 10 Edition Beta, through local multiplayer or with your Xbox Live friends online. *shudder* All I can think of is Microsoft's Xbox live for windows abomination.
X-13 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 So... I just bought this. Still trying to work out what the controller buttons do. Apparently there's 2 buttons for the inventory... Anyone got this?

Anyone got this? Tempted to pick it up when I eventually upgrade, wouldn't want to use controller though, found it too clunky on consoles, KBM ftw.
LosOjos Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I'm about to install it on a laptop with only iGPU, just to see if it handles it better than the Java version...
Gatt Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Installed it - and cant seem to find a way to alter the resolution Plus, if its require an XBOX live account - what happens to the Mojang account i've forked out for?
X-13 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) Installed it - and cant seem to find a way to alter the resolution The window size? Yeah, I can't see that either... I just maximise it. @Gatt, @LosOjos and everyone else with Minecraft Windows 10, send me you XBL gamertag. I'll add you and we can have minecraft adventures. Edited August 10, 2015 by X-13
Gatt Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Not sure if I'll be using it yet.. Problems I have with it are: Cannot alter screen resolution Cannot use my Minecraft / Mojang ID Cannot connect to my Minecraft server (I put the info in but it never appears in the list under "Friends" Cannot change key bindings? For now I'll stick with the current version...
JRowley Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 The current version of this is effectively Minecraft Pocket edition ported over to windows 10, so it is very lacking in features. It's not even the console version but they are working to update it to that asap.
DMcGuigan Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 So with the latest patch, putting the game into full screen causes it to crash to desktop as soon as I left click.. kind of irritating. Had to work my way through the menus with the keyboard to put it back into Windowed. Looks like I'll have to stick with hiding the task bar.
