Hi All,

I had a Planet switch die on me yesterday. Replaced it with a similar bit of Cisco kit. Plugged it all back in and everything is fine apart from the 2 printers in the building. If I swap the printers I get no connection. If I take the printers to another data port they connect just fine. If I connect a laptop to the port next to the printers it connects just fine too! WTH!?

Really have no idea what is going on here! What can I try next?

Cheers, TomHD

run a cable tester over the cable maybe its slightly iffy enough that the printer dosent like it but a laptop can cope possibly

No VLANs. I doubt it is the cable, I have 2 printers in the building and both ports have the same problems. I highly doubt 2 cable runs that happen to have printers attached have fallen over at the exact same time. Sticky MACs, I've never set that up, how would I find this out?

Cheers

PS, should a solution not be found in relatively good time I'll run new cables to the ports and see if that helps.

If it's a Cisco switch check to see if Portfast is set on those ports (assuming that you're using spanning tree) - could also be that the printer and switch are failing to auto-negotiate a speed, try setting the port to 10mb manually and see if that works?

I did try setting the speed from auto to 100Full, I will try all the other speeds :)

I have spanning tree set so will look at that too :)

@pantscat WINS :D Of course the its the speed! Setting the printers from Auto to 10Full has got them connected again. Have just got to figure out what to replace the 2 dead Planet FGSW 2402RS with! Will make another thread for that in a bit :)

Cheers everyone for the input.
