Claire74 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I have an Acer Travelmate 5744 laptop running Windows 7 that on start up says 'boot mgr error press ctrl + alt + delete to restart' I have tried changing the start up-using F12 on start up-to a DVD but the recovery disk I have is corrupt so wont work. I then tried to go into the set up menu (F2 on start up) but it is asking for a password to allow me to go into the BIOS menu but I dont know it! Is there any way I can bypass the password to get into the BIOS?? Any advice would me much appreciated.
TC-1927 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 If you take the watch battery out of the main board and leave it for a few minutes, it should dump all the BIOS settings.
difinity Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Not usually on laptops. There are a couple of BIOS blanking utilities on the Hiren CD that might be worth trying.
Claire74 Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 From what I understand, the password was created by the manufacturer?? - - - Updated - - - I have tried to locate it but it would invlove taking the laptop apart which I am not confident in doing, but thank you for your input. - - - Updated - - - Many thanks, I will look into that.
