Hi,

We have had the painful experience of converting all our data from CMIS to SIMS this year and think we are just getting to the end of that tunnel. However, we have now been given the additional task of taking on our sister school's SIMS system which, to say the least, has a huge amount of historical rubbish, I mean data, in. (E.g 3000 non system aspects and 3100 non system templates).

We now need to replicate our own aspects, result sets, templates etc, set up as per our training with Capita, so that staff at both sites are looking at the same things in both systems, but has anyone had any similar project? Any tips? Or any pot holes we should be looking out for!

Good job we still have 2 1/2 weeks before the end of term to do it!!!!!!!!!

You can export aspects, templates, etc. and effectively clone them into the new system.

The hard part will be moving the other data into the correct holders. This can be tricky, but i'd imagine the best thing to do would be use the Performance Tools for moving results etc.

Another option, depending on how organise their data is, would be to use large multi aspect templates to export the data to Excel then re-import to a corrected multi aspect template of your design.

Either way a lot of work.

Speak to Capita / your support though as they may offer some other advice or even have some methods that they use for data migrations..., but i guess you have already experienced that a little in your previous move.
