Hardware Problem on a Ripreped PC

I have 2 riprep images for two different sets of computers. Everything installs fine or so it seems until you log on and it says new hardware found. It has detected the Hard drive and wants to intall it. It says there was an error installing it and when it reboots, it resets after the XP screen. You ahve to use last known good to get it to work again.

If an admin doesnt log on then the normal users say get the message that they cannot intall the harware because they dont have permission which is fine and they can continue to use the PC as normal. The same happens to all normal users that log on until I come along and the hardware installation buggers it up. This happens on the other type of computer I ahve as well.

 

I have switched to using a fully automated flat install now once I got everything extra I needed to automate. I find this far more flexible but I still want to know whats happeing with my riprep images.

What HAL type is the riprep image for and what type of machine are you sending them to?

 

Is the riprep image being used from the exact same hardware?

 

As soon as the system starts up it will do a pnp check and will expect to find all of the correct inf files it needs in the windows system folders or the oem pnpdrivers search paths.

 

Check out the pnpdrivers paths in the registry keys of the source image if they refer to a path that is not available to the hardware or user during pnp it will fail.

I prepared the image on the exact same machines I am sending the image to.

The image is packed with a lot of extra drivers which i used using some BTS driver packs in anticipation of using the image on slightly different hardware from the source.

Have you tried debugging with riprep -pnp
