Gongalong Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 (Couldn't find an exact forum for this) Hi folks, Our Head of Computing would like to demonstrate the command prompt to students, apparently as part of changes to the KS3 curriculum. I’m not sure of the detail, but the initial suggestion was to use Console2, but this is just a live command prompt alternative. I’m not enamoured with the idea of giving students command prompt access, albeit there are ways we could limit it. An emulator seems like a much better idea to me, and web based even better. I can find a Linux based one (Javascript PC Emulator), but nothing MS DOS. It might well be that Linux is good enough, as is does demonstrate the concept at least. Is anyone else doing this, and if so how are you approaching it? TIA
GeekyPete Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 +1 for Dosbox, it's great to run DuneII and all the Decent games on too!
BKGarry Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I have windows 95 running in DosBox on my Mac just for a laugh, boot it up every now and again
Ephelyon Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Would a VM not be the right solution for this? Linked to an abandonware one for you. Just exit out of Program Manager to get a DOS prompt. Could set this up running on a terminal server and have the tutor and/or students remote in etc. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B67oBNGv5opzQjd1bEp2eG9EUms/view?usp=sharing
