LJayP Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 (edited) Hello just like to say I am new to the forums and im sorry if this is a dumb question, I have several hard drives installed and one is split into 3 partitions one holds windows the other is just for files and then the system reserved. I can't seem to extend the volume back. I have one partition which is 73GB and I can't get it to join back to the OS partition, would this be because the system reserve is in the middle of both partitions? I have attached a screen shot. Steve21 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 If you mean like put the 73GB back onto the OS, you'll need to delete the 73GB volume so it's free space etc. Steve
Arreks Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 ^ What he said. I believe it's called "Shrinking" in Windows, shrink the partition and then use that free space to extend your other partition.

I want to give that 73Gb back to the main OS but it never gives me the option to extend once I delete the 73GB it just goes to unallocated and won't let me extend it back to OS. Let me try the shrink option and see what happens.
LJayP Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 Okay guys I tried it and it still doesn't work, if you look at my new screenshot the option to extend the partition is still greyed out. Am I missing something here?
Steve21 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 If the free/unallocated space stays on the "left side" of the C:\ you can't do it directly in Windows GUI (unless it's changed) you'll need to use a separate partition program. Windows only likes to extend into bits that's next to the drive you're doing Steve

timbo343 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 GParted might be able to help you here too - i used GParted on a RAID5 configuration before and prayed to god things worked afterwards. 8 hours later it completed and things worked as they should.

I have now extended the partition with Partition Wizard and it is now back to its 500Gb thank you so much. This as driving me mad
