I've had a few laptops break over the years and needed a Reflow, I know a place by me who charge £90

Oh I'm with you now! Yeah it's a real PITA. I get why the EU are enforcing leadless solder (it's extremely hazardous and is polluting our water streams), but it's a major problem for electronics. Wish somebody could figure out a way to make leadless solder that didn't disintegrate after a couple of years!

I did think about having this sent off for a reflow, but TBH I have no interest in Macs. I was excited when it was handed to me because I'm sure I'd have enjoyed learning the ins and outs of it, but I'm not prepared to spend ~£100 getting it working.

£90 is about the price for a reball which is the proper way to do it. Expensive for a reflow which has a very high probability of failing again.
